Erin absolutely refuses to go into David's Bridal because of the heart shaped apostrophe.
Noah won't set foot in a commercial jewlery store, because it turns out diamond engagement rings are a giant scam!

Here is a Wired Magazine article about the archaeological dig in Turkey that Noah mentions.

Noah later opted not to steal a ring from the dig, because he's seen Midnight Express

Review: Crystal Triangle -- it's not that crazy.

Conspiracy tropes from the 1980s:

Lovecraft Mythos (owing at least partially to the publication of the Illuminatus! Trilogy by Robert Anton Wilson, popularized by the game Illuminati
by Steve Jackson Games.

The
Nemesis star
(or comet) which proposed a wandering celestial body whose near contact with earth would destroy it (known to Erin from the Silver Nemesis episode of Dr. Who)

The Dark Moon (or counter-moon), supposedly the second, unseeable (and therefore arcanely powerful) moon of the Earth.

Uh... k7.net?
I dunno, I was just curious. I don't have any suggestions.

Have fun in Boston.

I'm waaaaay too old and published to be a hipster. The ones around here in SF all say they are working on a book, but are just sitting around in the cafe all day futzing around on AIM or playing with iTunes.

[info]ninjaconsultant

March 17 2008, 20:29:01 UTC 4 years ago

So if you get published, you're exempt?! What if, theoretically, a hipster author published a book about hipsters - either fiction or non-fiction - would they no longer be a hipster?

Whatever, dude.

I'm sorry - I totally judged you by your clothes. I don't think I'm a hipster either, but I do wear a lot of threadless.com shirts.

I prefer to be called a "chick" rather than a "dude". (Noah rarely responds to comments.)

Hipsters are nothing but nerds who can't admit to being nerds, so I think it's entirely possible to be a hipster and an otaku. That said, Erin's earnestness regarding her interests are what preclude her from being a hipster despite her neighborhood, while her social skills preclude her from being an otaku. And since she can't be Hasidic, I therefore determine, through the infallible scientific method outlined above, that she is Hispanic.

From the Field Notes of Daryl Surat (Podcaster, Historian):

Persons denying the insanity of Crystal Triangle because "they've heard of these conspiracy theories before" may be insane themselves, and not in the "quirky" indie film romantic-comedy sort of way. Familiarity does not imply normalcy, especially not when dealing with Conspiracy Theory Grand Unification.

Craig Baldwin's Tribulation 99: Alien Anomalies Under America--which incidentally is your next viewing assignment--is the ultimate 45-minute proof of this.

Hooray

Congratulations, y'all, but seriously -- 6 years? Please. I have my ten year in July, and we're still swingin'. Livin' in sin, baby! Livin' in sin!

And I agree totally about diamonds. Yawn. Emeralds, however...

Only if we charge admission! Can't afford an open bar for everyone...

March 19 2008, 19:02:50 UTC 4 years ago

mmmm

You could afford an all night open bar if you stock it solely with Yellowstone brand bourbon. You can buy gallon jugs for like four bucks.

Re: mmmm

The only downsides I can see are:

- Gallons of leftover bourbon in apartment
- Guests blind from alcohol poisoning

Congratulations!

And my husband and I also have similar views on the whole wedding ring sort of thing. Though we weren't quite as cool and selected silver rings decorated with a celtic knot pattern. Kudos for you guys being so inventive, and the ring is very cool!

*hugs*
